Z Island

"Z Island" is a Japanese film released on May 16, 2015, starring Sho Aikawa and directed by Hiroshi Shinagawa. This film serves as Aikawa’s 30th anniversary tribute to his career in entertainment and is his 111th leading role. The film is based on the concept of "Yakuza vs. Zombies," a project that director Shinagawa had been developing for about 8 years.

The story begins with the head of a Yakuza family, 'Mugata,' being attacked by a rival gang. His subordinate, 'Takeshi,' attempts to take revenge by shooting the rival gang leader 'Banmachi,' but he is captured by the police and imprisoned. Ten years later, Takeshi is released, but his daughter, 'Hinata,' who wants nothing to do with him, runs away to a remote island called 'Zenjima.' Mugata, Takeshi, 'Sakura,' and 'Shinya' follow Hinata to the island. Meanwhile, members of the rival gang, including 'Yoshida,' who has run off with valuable goods, also head to the island.

The film was specially invited to the 33rd Brussels Fantastic Film Festival and the 7th Okinawa International Film Festival. Before filming, actress Maika Yamamoto trained in action scenes for two months, with Shinagawa participating in the training as well. The film features 2,800 extras, and Shinagawa also directed the music video for the theme song "Z Ore-tachi teki Gyakushu" and the promotional video for the insert song "Z DUB."

On April 8, 2015, Sho Aikawa threw the ceremonial first pitch at a game between the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters and the Saitama Seibu Lions at the Tokyo Dome.
