I'm a Hero | 2016

The movie I'm a Hero is a 2016 Japanese zombie action film. It is based on the manga of the same name by Kengo Hanazawa, with direction by Shinsuke Sato and starring Yo Oizumi. The movie tells the story of an ordinary manga artist, Hideo, who fights for survival in a Japan overwhelmed by a zombie virus.

According to the synopsis, Hideo, who worked as a manga assistant, is attacked by people who have turned into zombies (ZQN) due to a mysterious virus. Together with high school girl Hiromi and former nurse Tsugumi, they fight for survival.

There are several differences between the movie and the original manga. The biggest difference lies in the mutation of the zombies and the behavior of the main characters. In the movie, Hiromi appears in a semi-ZQN state, which grants her extraordinary strength. Additionally, the movie significantly reduces sexual depictions, grotesque mutations, and critical social commentary seen in the original manga.

The movie also includes many scenes shot in South Korea, especially in areas like Paju and Gyeonggi Province. The gory depictions and action sequences faithfully recreate the original manga, and the makeup of the zombies effectively captures the grotesque feel of the source material.
