Goal of the Dead
"Goal of the Dead" is a 2014 French horror comedy film directed by Thierry Poiraud and Benjamin Rocher, written by Tristan Schulmann, Marie Garel Weiss, Quoc Dang Tran, Ismaël Sy Savané, and Laetitia Trapet. It stars Alban Lenoir, Charlie Bruneau, Tiphaine Daviot, Ahmed Sylla, and Alexandre Philip, portraying football players and fans who must battle zombies when the entire stadium becomes infected.
The plot follows a former local football star who returns home to play a match but receives a hostile reception. One of the local players is injected with infected steroids before the match, causing him to go on a violent rampage. The stadium quickly becomes a massacre, and the virus spreads to both players and spectators. The few uninfected humans must fight to survive against the bloodthirsty zombies.
The film premiered in France on February 27, 2014, where it was released as two separate films. These were later combined for its festival screenings. International theatrical release dates were expected to coincide with the 2014 FIFA World Cup in June. It was scheduled for release on home video in the UK on July 7, 2014.
Critics had mixed reviews. Jordan Mintzer of The Hollywood Reporter called it "amusing and gory" but noted that it suffered from its length. Andrew Pollard of Starburst gave it 8/10 stars, writing, "Despite its ludicrous-sounding plot, Goal of the Dead is a massively enjoyable movie." Ben Bussey of Brutal as Hell described it as "a perfectly entertaining film" but remarked that "it's far longer than any light-hearted comedy horror movie really needs to be."
