Resident Evil Zero

Resident Evil Zero is a survival horror game released by Capcom in 2002, serving as the sixth installment and a prequel in the Resident Evil series. The game begins in July 1998, deep within the forests of the Arklay Mountains in the Midwestern United States. The Umbrella-owned tourist train, the "Ecliptic Express," is attacked by a mysterious man, resulting in the complete annihilation of all passengers. In response to this incident, the S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team is dispatched, but they crash-land in the heart of the Raccoon Forest due to a helicopter malfunction.

Rebecca Chambers, a rookie member of the Bravo Team, discovers an overturned M.P. vehicle while searching the area with her teammates. This vehicle was transporting the notorious criminal Billy Coen, and when his body cannot be found, the team leader, Enrico, suspects that he has escaped. Following orders, Rebecca wanders through the forest and stumbles upon the Ecliptic Express, which is eerily stopped in the middle of the tracks. Inside, she confronts horrifying secrets and is thrust into a fight for survival.

The game revolves around two protagonists, Rebecca and Billy. As a rookie in S.T.A.R.S., Rebecca fights desperately to prove her worth and save her teammates. In contrast, Billy, a former soldier, possesses exceptional combat skills, and together they complement each other's weaknesses. Players alternate between controlling these two characters, solving various puzzles and battling enemies.

A unique aspect of the game is the absence of traditional item boxes. Instead, players must drop items on the ground and retrieve them when needed, requiring strategic thinking. However, this system can sometimes lead to inconvenience, forcing players to consider their item management carefully.

Resident Evil Zero received positive feedback for its graphics and gameplay mechanics, but it also faced criticism for inconsistencies in its story and setting. Notably, Rebecca Chambers, who appeared as a weak supporting character in the first game, takes on a powerful protagonist role in Zero, creating a contradiction that sparked debate among fans.

Ultimately, Resident Evil Zero serves as an important prequel in the series, exploring the secrets of Umbrella and the events that unfold as a result. The collaboration between Rebecca and Billy offers players a tense experience, and their story enhances the allure of the survival horror genre.
