Undead or Alive: A Zombedy | 2007
Undead or Alive: A Zombedy is a 2007 Western comedy horror film directed by Glasgow Phillips, featuring a unique blend of humor and horror. The film stars Navi Rawat, Chris Kattan, and James Denton, and was later acquired by Image Entertainment, securing both theatrical and home video rights.
Plot Summary
The story begins with Geronimo cursing white men, which leads to a zombie outbreak in a small town. The film opens with Ben Goodman (Brian Posehn), who, after attacking his family, becomes a zombie, setting off a chain of events that plunge the town into chaos.
Luke (Chris Kattan), a cowboy in the town, plans to propose to a saloon girl. However, upon arriving at the saloon, he discovers that his "princess" is actually a prostitute. After a confrontation with newcomer Elmer Winslow (James Denton), both men are jailed by Sheriff Claypool (Matt Besser), who steals Elmer's $500.
While awaiting his hanging, Ben is locked in a cell, and Luke and Elmer manage to escape, leaving Deputy Cletus (Chris Coppola) behind, who is subsequently bitten by Ben. As the sheriff and the prostitute engage in a scandalous act, Luke and Elmer rob them and make their getaway. The next day, when Ben is hanged, he remains undead and attacks the townspeople, leading to further chaos.
The town's minister (Leslie Jordan) manages to lock himself in an upstairs room at the saloon to escape the zombie horde. However, the next morning, he climbs out the window for water and is bitten by the prostitute.
Luke, Elmer, and Sue (Navi Rawat), Geronimo's vengeful niece, are captured by soldiers who are former colleagues of Elmer. They are taken to a fort on the edge of the Grand Canyon, where they discover that the posse has already turned the garrison into zombies. The trio learns that they can defeat the zombies through decapitation.
During the night, while hiding in the fort, Sue reveals that the only way to cure the zombie curse is to consume the living flesh of the medicine man who created it. They attempt to use a homemade blunderbuss against the sheriff and the zombies, but it proves ineffective. Elmer tries to punch First Sergeant Kermit but ends up getting bitten. After a chaotic battle, Elmer blows up most of the zombies, but he himself becomes a zombie and throws Cletus off a cliff.
Sue kills Sheriff Claypool, but she is then attacked by Elmer and Luke. In a surprising twist, Elmer and Luke regain their humanity after consuming Sue's flesh, as the "eating the living flesh" cure works for relatives of the person who created the curse. Sue is humorously described as tasting like gingerbread. The duo rides off into the sunset, while Cletus rises again to chase them.
The film concludes with an epilogue showing Ben digging up his family from the cemetery, now zombies themselves, as they skip into town together. This film combines humor and horror in a unique way, providing audiences with both laughs and thrills throughout its runtime.
